What better way to experience Indian culture than through an Old Delhi Street Food Tour?

Each region of India has its unique street food and Delhi is no exception. Visit our favorite vendors in Old Delhi and try the local specialties chole bature, dahi bhalla and aloo chat, as well as parathaslassi and the very sweet but delicious jalebis and the local equivalent of rice pudding and bread and butter pudding.

All of these dishes are vegetarian but meat eaters will have the option to try Indian fried chicken in the buzzing Matia Mahal neighbourhood towards the end of the tour.

In addition to sampling the best of Old Delhi’s street food, we will also do some sightseeing as we explore the largest spice market in Asia, take a stroll along Chandni Chowk and stop to admire the imposing Jama Masjid.   We will absorb the hustle and bustle of the narrow streets as we visit different locations by rickshaw.

Combine this tour with our signature Sanjay Colony Slum Tour or our Delhi Art Tour for an unforgettable day in Delhi!

Hope you’re hungry!

Highlights

Delhi Chaat (Snacks)

When in Delhi, eat as the Delhiites do. That means chole bature (fried, puffed bread paired with chickpea curry), parathas (Indian flatbread), dahi bhalla (fried flour balls covered in yogurt) and aloo chat (crispy, tangy, spicy potatoes)!

Indian Sweets

You can’t go to Old Delhi and not try jalebi from Jalebiwalla. Try this along with kheer (Indian rice pudding) and shahi tukda (bread soaked in milk and nuts, like bread pudding) and you will understand why Indians have a sweet tooth!

Rickshaw Rides

Get a great view of the hustle and bustle of the busy markets as we move between locations.

Indian Fried Chicken

Enjoy this succulent chicken with a twist in chaotic Matia Mahal near the Jama Masjid, as cycle rickshaws and people pass by.

FAQs

Is street food hygienic and safe to eat?

Yes! Well, not always, but the vendors we have carefully selected are perfectly safe and hygienic (hundreds of happy guests and counting!). In fact, this is one of the main motivating factors in designing this tour: we wanted to make India’s incredible street food accessible to visitors.

I have food allergies - should I let you know?

If you do have any serious allergies feel free to let us know at time of booking and do also let your guide know on tour so that certain foods may be avoided.

Are there vegetarian options?

Yes! The entire tour is vegetarian except for the last stop, during which you can use the time to soak up the atmosphere of the buzzing Matia Mahal neighborhood.

What will we eat?

We’ll try the local specialties: chole bature, dahi bhalla and aloo chat, as well as parathas, lassi and the very sweet but delicious jalebis and the local equivalent of rice pudding and bread and butter pudding.

Is it appropriate for children?

Yes we are fine welcoming children 12 years and over on our normal tour at the responsibility of an accompanying adult. For visitors with children less than 12 years, please get in touch in advance as we would recommend a private tour.

How many people can go on a private tour?

A private tour is for up to 6 people.

Do you provide private tours for large groups?

Absolutely. Please contact us.

Is there a lunchtime option?

We provide both a day time tour and an evening tour. The stops might alter a little bit as not everything stays open during the day, but the day time tour is great for people who want to avoid the crowds. The streets of Old Delhi are much more crowded in the evening and the tour is perfect for people who want to soak up the atmosphere of Old Delhi’s chaos!
