SHORT TOUR

On this tour we explore Dharavi on foot- the only way to really see it- but it will not be strenuous.

Cost
Cost is Rs 400 per person. There are maximum 6 people on a tour.

As per all our tours, we have a NO TIPS POLICY. The guides are paid a good wage and are rewarded on the basis of the questionnaires which we ask everybody to fill out after the tour

Timings
Tours generally run in the morning and afternoon. When there are less people interested in the tour, tours might be restricted to either morning or afternoon. Exact timings depend on where you meet the guide (see below). The tour takes 2.5 hours when you arrive at Dharavi.

Tours run seven days a week including Sundays and public holidays.

On Sunday and public holidays, the nursery school and some of the small businesses are closed. Despite that, there is plenty to see and one still gets a very good idea of the Dharavi slum- both the business and residential areas.

Please note that for people staying in Colaba the total time for this tour from start to finish is about 4 hrs 15 mins (due to travelling time to and from Dharavi)- i.e. very similar to the long tour.

Meeting points
There are two meeting points for this tour. You need to indicate to us when making the booking where you wish to meet the guide.

  1. Churchgate Railway Station
If you are staying in Colaba, the main tourist area, or nearby, then the best place to meet the guide is at Churchgate Railway Station ticket office. You need to be there at 2pm for the afternoon tour, and 9.15am if there is a morning tour.
  2. Mahim Junction Railway Station
Otherwise, you should meet the guide at the slum itself, at 2.45pm for the afternoon tour and 10am if there is a morning tour. Dharavi is located next to the train station Mahim Junction on the local Western Railway line- We meet at the railway ticket office by the main entrance to the station, on the west side (just off platform 1).
See map for more exact details of where to meet.

Camera policy
We have a strict no cameras policy.
