Volunteering

We believe that volunteering is a very powerful way to connect more with India and its people, and can be beneficial to all parties if carried out in a dedicated manner with good humour.

Being a volunteer typically means that you have to pay for all your living expenses including accommodation, food and travel expenses, although there may be some organisations which give some allowance for these.

Length of commitment depends on the organisation.

For all the organisations listed, we have either visited some of their projects and/or have spoken to the founders in depth and are happy to recommend them. That said, the interaction is between the volunteer and the organisation involved; we bear no liability or responsiblity for your or the organisation's actions.

Organisations looking for volunteers

We are looking for volunteers to teach English at our community centre. Ideally teachers should hold a CELTA certificate or some other TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) qualification. But more important is a passion to teach and to get involved. We need a minimum two month commitment. For more info, please contact us.

Atma Mumbai is a Dutch NGO based in Mumbai which supports educational development. They are generally looking for volunteers with particular skills to offer, who are willing to live and work at their own expense in Mumbai for a minimum period of three months.
