Marvel at the Taj Mahal, enjoy local hospitality and drop in on village life.
As one of the 7 Wonders of the Word and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Taj Mahal is one must-see monument in India. Departing from Delhi by car, accompanied by your tour guide we will stop along the way in a village where we will enjoy some chai with a local family. We’ll then arrive in Agra, leave our bags at the accommodation (homestay with local family) and go for lunch.
With this overnight stay in Agra, you will have the chance to admire the Taj Mahal either at sunset or sunrise. Most people do this at sunrise the next day so the first afternoon is normally spent walking around the impressive Agra Fort. You can visit Mehtab Bagh, a small 22 acre Persian-style garden located next to the Yamuna river, offering a very unique view of the Taj Mahal at sunset. There is also the option to visit the tomb of Itimād-ud-Daulah (“Baby Taj Mahal”). For dinner, we’ll eat a beautiful home made vegetarian meal at the homestay.
The next morning, we will have the opportunity to visit the Taj Mahal for sunrise or the Agra Fort (depending on your choice) and we then make our way to Mathura (the birthplace of Hindu god Krishna) and Vrindavan. In Mathura, we will take a boat ride on the Yamuna River and visit various ghats before returning to Delhi.
Learn about village life as visit with community members of a small village en route to Agra. Your guide will be there to facilitate any questions you may have.
Gape in awe at the Taj Mahal. Spend some time wandering around the courtyard, taking in the architecture, history, and refined beauty of this world-famous mausoleum.
Agra is also home to the impressive, 94-acre Agra Fort that, although often overshadowed by the Taj, is spectacular in its own right.
Experience staying with a local family, eat some tasty home cooked food and spend some time with the local community.
Mathura is one of the holiest cities in India, the birthplace of Lord Krishna. You will enjoy a typical boat ride on the Yamuna River and enjoy the views while passing from one ghat to another.
We will pick you up from your hotel / residence at 9.00am (contact us if you would prefer to start later) and return in the evening, at around 8pm.
It takes 3.5 hours to drive to Agra from Delhi. We will travel in a private air-conditioned car and stop at a small village for a chai on the way there to break up the journey.
The village we visit is located mid-way between Delhi and Agra.
We’ll drink a chai, walk around the town and speak with anyone who is around in order to learn about village life.
Entry fees to the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort are not included in the tour price.
We would highly recommend including Agra Fort in your day. Although less well-known, it is very impressive and our guests are always happy they went. It also has an interesting view of the Taj Mahal. But if you would like to skip it, we can.
We’ll have a home-cooked vegetarian dinner that will certainly include roti and a few vegetable dishes. Sometimes we have dishes such as dal (lentils), mixed vegetable curry and paneer vegetable curry.
Yes, your guide from Reality Tours will accompany you the whole day. When we go into the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort we will be assisted by a local guide (as per local rules).
