Experience India’s Ultimate 20-Day Food Journey

Taste your way across India on this 20-day culinary and cultural journey. Discover the country’s soul through its food.

We will explore iconic sights like the Taj Mahal, Jaipur’s Amber Fort, and relax at Kerala’s backwaters and Goa’s beaches, while also cooking with local families and learning regional recipes from chefs and home cooks. And of course, we will make our way into bustling bazaars and sample everything from Mumbai’s famous street snacks to Kerala’s seafood feast.

We will make sure that you leave with more than recipes, while taking home more stories, friendships, and a deep appreciation for India’s culinary soul.

Our mission is to improve the quality of life in the communities where we work. Like all of our tours, 80% of the profits fund Reality Gives, our education NGO based in Dharavi (Mumbai) and Sanjay Colony (Delhi). Thank you for supporting our programs by signing up for the tour!

Kindly Note: the Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays to allow the local Muslim community to hold prayers at the mosque situated within the complex.

Itinerary

Visual itinerary of Culinary India Immersion: a 20-day food-focused journey through India’s diverse culinary regions.

Welcome to Delhi, the nation’s capital, a vibrant city with an unbelievable amount of history! Our representative will meet you at the airport, and then you will transfer to your hotel. Depending on your arrival time and how tired you are, the tour guide will plan the rest of the day with you accordingly, which could include some sightseeing, plus a welcome dinner/ street food tour to start with.

Today in the morning, we will do some traditional sightseeing of your choice, such as visiting India Gate, Humayun’s tomb, Agrasen ki Baoli (a stepwell), and Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, a Sikh temple and one of the largest community kitchens in India, which feeds more than 10,000 people per day. In the evening, we will go on to experience cooking classes, as you know, Delhi was once under Mughal rule, so this culinary experience will make us cook and eat the Mughlai cuisine.

Today we will drive to Agra (4 hrs). On arrival and check in we will visit the massive Agra fort- built with red sandstone. Later, discover the rich and royal flavors of Uttar Pradesh with an immersive cooking class led by a local chef or home cook.

Today, we wake up early to get a glimpse of the Taj Mahal at sunrise- the best time to visit. Later, we come back to our hotel for a late breakfast and then drive to Jaipur (5 hrs). On the way, we will visit Abaneri Chand Baori- one of the largest stepwells in the world.

On arrival and check in the hotel, we will go on an orientation walk in Jaipur and also enjoy some famous food of Jaipur, Kachori, Samosa, Lassi, and much more.

Today we will go on a full-day tour of Jaipur. In the morning, we will visit Amber Fort with its magnificent views, and in the afternoon, we will continue to explore the rest of the city, such as Hawa Mahal, City Palace, and Jantar Mantar. In the evening, we will join a cooking class and get an opportunity to learn about Rajasthani cuisine, its unique flavors, and techniques.

Today we will take a train to Udaipur 09721JP UDZ SF SPL ETD/ETA 6.15 am/1.25 pm.

On arrival, we will visit Bagore ki Haveli for a traditional Rajasthani cultural show. Alternatively, you can also go on a boat ride in Lake Pichola.

Today in the morning, we will go on a tour of Udaipur, which includes the City Palace, and in the mid-morning, we will visit Jagdish Temple- dedicated to Bhagwan Vishnu. The temple has a peaceful and spiritual atmosphere, and the energy here feels truly divine. Later, we walk around the local markets, tasting some local sweets, sugar cane juice, and exotic fruits.

This evening will enjoy a magical lakeside dinner with views of Udaipur’s illuminated palaces. A romantic setting perfect for couples, yet thoughtfully curated for all — solo travelers and friends alike.

Today we will take a flight to Mumbai

On arrival and check in we will go on our popular street food tour.

We will travel together to Dharavi, one of Asia’s biggest slums and the heart of small-scale industry in Mumbai. The tour of Dharavi, our company’s award-winning and signature tour, shows a balanced portrayal of life for the less privileged in Mumbai and you will learn about the NGO programs directly supported by your tour.

The rest of the day will allow time for some sightseeing of your choice, such as Victoria Terminus, Haji Ali Mosque, the view of the city from Malabar Hill, as well as the many different, chaotic markets that the city has to offer.

We will end our day with a traditional Maharastrian cuisine.

We will take a morning flight to Kochi, one of the big cities of Kerala. After checking into the hotel. In the evening, you’ll attend an amazing Kathakali performance. Kathakali, a 17th-century dance-drama that originated in Kerala, will capture you with its elaborate costumes, make-up, and most of all, complicated facial expressions.

Today we will visit “Jew Town”, where the first Jewish people settled in India, and Paradesi Synagogue, the first in India. We will also visit the Dutch Palace, gifted to the Cochin Royal Family by the Dutch. In the afternoon, we will visit Fort Kochi, known for its Dutch, Portuguese, and British colonial architecture. We will explore the area, spending time with some fishermen at the famous Chinese fishing nets, and there will be a chance to try pulling the nets yourself!

In the evening, we will step into a Kerala kitchen and learn the secrets of South Indian spices and coastal flavors. Guided by a local chef, this interactive session ends with a delicious meal you’ve helped prepare.

Today we will drive (6-7 hours) to Munnar in the morning. During the long, winding journey to Munnar, you will make several stops where your guide will show you many aspects of domestic and agricultural Keralan village life. We will also visit a toddy shop (liquor made from coconut sap, which you can try), and we will enjoy a delicious seafood lunch (also visited by Anthony Bourdain and Gordon Ramsey).

Arriving in Munnar in the late afternoon, from the hustle and bustle of Kochi, you’ll barely recognize where you are amidst the rolling mountains, fresh air, and tea plantations stretching as far as the eye can see.

You’ll have time to get settled into your guesthouse and explore Munnar a bit on your own. You can go for a short hike, or you can sit back and relax with a good book, a nice cup of tea, and enjoy the scenery.

Today’s experience goes beyond food — it’s a journey into the soul of India. We will walk through Kerala’s lush tea plantations, discover the craft behind every cup, and understand tea’s powerful place in Indian culture.

We will also visit the very scenic Echo Point and the Rose Garden. In the evening, you have an option to watch Kalaripayattu (martial art of Kerala), join a tea tasting event, or learn some Kerala recipes at your hotel kitchen with the chef!!

We will begin early in the morning with a visit to a local fish market, where your guide will help you choose delicious seafood to be cooked on board our very own houseboat for lunch! We’ll then make our way to the backwaters and board our Kettuvallam (Keralan houseboat). It will be a relaxing day spent cruising along the backwaters, a vast network of lakes, rivers, canals, and lagoons, observing and occasionally visiting some villages and rice farms.

We’ll stay overnight on the open water on our houseboat (bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms) and enjoy the Kerala-style lunch, dinner, and breakfast cooked by our chef on board.

Today we will take a day train to Heranjalu Village, the home of Krishna, one of the founders of Reality Tours, in the state of Karnataka. We will enjoy the beautiful views of the region from our window when the train passes through 100s of villages, farms of Kerala on the west coast. We will be reaching Byndoor late at night. On arrival in Byndoor, we will get home and go to bed.

Today, if you wake up early, go for a village walk or jog around the rice fields and river. We will have breakfast with Krishna’s family in their home, where we will be spending a couple of days. Following breakfast, your guide will orient you with an introductory walk through the village, where you will meet the people and learn about their lives.

This afternoon will be different from the rest of the itinerary as we leave the beaten path and step into a timeless tradition with Van Bhojan — a heartfelt forest meal that celebrates simplicity, togetherness, and nature. Surrounded by greenery, you'll sit on the earth, eat from banana leaves, and share a lovingly prepared meal made with local flavors and age-old recipes.

This is more than just dining — it's a cultural ritual where stories are exchanged, laughter flows freely, and every bite connects you to the land and its people.

Yakshagna's performance in the evening

Today we’ll bid farewell to the family and visit Murudeshwar Shiva Temple, the second-tallest Shiva idol in the world. Later, we will take a train to Goa.

This is a day where you decide to either sit on the beach, enjoying the laid-back atmosphere of Palolem, or your guide can take you by car to discover the world of Old Goa in Panjim (4 to 5 hours in total). With the assistance of a local guide, you will learn about the history and the Portuguese influence in Goa, wandering through the old Latin quarters and taking in the architecture and churches that characterize the area.

Later in the evening, we’ll step into a Goan home and uncover the secrets of a cuisine shaped by the sea, spices, and centuries of cultural fusion. Under the guidance of a local chef, you’ll learn to prepare iconic dishes — from fiery Xacuti to tangy Fish Recheado — using fresh coastal ingredients and traditional methods.

This is the end of the tour, but you may decide to spend more time relaxing on one of the many beaches that Goa has to offer.
