Immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of the capital and enjoy some fun exercise!

New Delhi’s wide flat streets and magnificent monuments make it the ideal area for a bicycle ride. Two wheels allow us to slowly explore the small side lanes of New Delhi as well as the city’s more spread out highlights all in one day.

On this tour we’ll visit the must see New Delhi sights such as India Gate, Lodhi Gardens, and President’s Palace. But we’ll also introduce you to some hidden gems such as Agrasen Ki Boali (an ancient step well) and Khan Market. At the end of the tour, once we’ve worked up a good appetite, we’ll stop for a traditional north Indian breakfast of chole puri, samosa and chai

We start early to avoid traffic and the heat of the day. Your group will be accompanied by two guides, one of whom with ride behind the group for extra safety.

India Gate

This 42 meter arch was built to honour the Indian and British Soldiers killed along the Northwest border during World War I and Afghan Wars in 1919.

Lodhi Gardens

Cycle through this spectacular 90 acre garden and discover tombs, mosques and bridges built during the 15th century Sayyid and Lodhi periods.

President's Palace

See where the president lives and in the surrounding Secretariat buildings and Parliament House, where the country is run. Unfortunately you’re not allowed inside but the buildings sit at the top of a small hill and the view overlooking Rajpath (the King’s Way) and India Gate in the distance is stunning.

Agrasen Ki Baoli

Hop off your bicycles and walk down this ancient step well. Rumored to have been built in 10th century and rebuilt in the 14th century, this unique well has 103 steps and is 60 metres long.

North Indian Breakfast

At the end of the tour enjoy a North Indian breakfast of puri sabji, samosa and tea or coffee.

Cycling in Delhi!? Is it safe?

Safety is our number one priority and we take several precautions to ensure safety. First, we leave early in the morning while the streets are relatively calm and the weather is cool. Second, we provide helmets for everyone. Finally, we have a second guide who rides in the back of the group with the sole task of keeping an eye on everyone.

However, whilst we start early to avoid traffic and the heat of the day, Old Delhi can still be a busy, challenging place to ride. This tour is only appropriate for experienced, confident cyclists. For a calmer, more peaceful cycling experience, check out our New Delhi Bicycle Tour

Are the bicycles and helmets included?

Yes, both bicycles and the helmet are included in the tour price. While helmets are not compulsory in India, you can request a helmet either when you sign up or on the day of the tour.

Why is it so early?

We leave early to avoid traffic and the heat of the day. Trust us, this is the absolute best time to see Delhi by bicycle and it is well worth the early wake up call!

What will we see?

Our bicycle tour is a fantastic orientation to Old Delhi. We’ll visit the must see Old Delhi sights such as Jama Masjid, Red Fort, and Digamber Jain Temple. But we’ll also introduce you to some local food and show you the area from a rooftop.

What should I wear?

Clothing you would wear for exercise is ideal, but not necessary. Depending on the season, it can be chilly at the beginning of tour. Our recommendation is to dress in layers and wear comfortable clothes.

What do I need to bring?

Everything including snacks and drinks will be provided. Don’t forget your camera! There is a back rack on the cycles to hold the water bottle provided. We recommend a small backpack should you want to bring anything else.

Is it appropriate to bring small children on the tour?

The tour involves quite a bit a cycling and is only recommended for confident, experienced cyclists. We do not recommend this tour for anyone under the age of 16.

How far do we ride?

In total we cycle 14km (about 9 miles) but that is spread over 3 hours and punctuated by frequent stops for drinks, visiting sights, and some food. In general, the difficulty is very low and doesn’t require participants to be in exceptional shape.

How many people can go on a private tour?

A private tour is for up to 6 people.

Do you provide private tours for large groups?

Absolutely! We regularly work with several schools and travel groups and provide them private tours for their groups. It’s always one of the highlights of their India trip! Please get in touch if you are the organizer of a group visit: delhi@realitytoursandtravel.com

Is the breakfast at the end of tour included?

Yes! At the end of the tour we stop at a local cafe where you get to try a typical North Indian breakfast (puri sabji, samosa, etc). This is included in the price of the tour.

What types of bike do you use?

We use reputable brands such as Hero, which is widely used in India. They are fixed gear models for easier riding and maintenance. The terrain is flat so gears and experience are not required! The bikes are adjustable but we can also provide larger or smaller bikes as required.

What if I have an issue with my bike?

We fully maintain our bikes and they are checked before every tour. Issues are rare but we have a kit for quick repairs such as punctures and our second guide will offer their bike to ensure the tour keeps moving. We can also replace any bike without much delay if necessary.
