I have learned so much about the background and I am absolutely impressed by what you are doing, as I did not expect to see what I saw. Thanks so much for this tour, especially to our tour guide
Eva Lehrke, Germany (Dharavi Walking Tour)
It was a great mix of biking and information. Not too much of either; a perfect mix.
Sarah Blanchard, United States (Mumbai Bicycle Tour)
We spent a really nice evening, and the food was excellent. The guide was really nice and gave us a lot of interesting information about the food and the city. Really, a good job!
Irene Gandini, Italy (Mumbai Street Food Tour)
Looking for something truly different? Our Mumbai Unique Experiences give you the chance to celebrate festivals and connect with the city in ways few travelers get to.
Depending on the tour you choose, you’ll visit landmarks like the Gateway of India, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Marine Drive, Dhobi Ghat, Crawford Market, and more. Some tours also cover offbeat locations, like lively Sassoon Dock or hidden heritage lanes in Colaba. Each tour is designed to show you a mix of iconic sites and local life.
Although we cannot take responsibility should anything happen, we believe that the places that we visit are very safe. There are a lot of people in Dharavi (approximately one million in an area of 0.7 square miles), and there is a strong police presence in the area. Dharavi is generally full of hard-working, honest people, although for security purposes, we ask you not to take valuables with you on the tour.
In the small alleys, you have to be careful of low-hanging roofs, open drains, and occasionally exposed electric wires. Also, in some of the factories that we visit, some fumes can be hazardous.
On selected tours like the Mumbai Street Food Tour, yes—plenty of food is included! For other tours, food may not be included, but our guides can recommend the best places to grab a bite after the tour. We always ensure that food options are hygienic, authentic, and safe for international travelers.
We have a strict no-camera policy in order to respect the privacy of the local residents. Dharavi has received a lot of attention from the media, and the residents are very wary of being exploited. While the policy may seem strict, it reflects the mutual respect we have built with the community over many years.
We can, however, send you a link to Dharavi photos, which can be downloaded. There is also the opportunity to buy postcards at the end of the tour, all profits going to our sister NGO Reality Gives.
Yes, we strongly recommend booking in advance, especially for private or popular tours like the Mumbai by Dawn or Evening Food Tour. This helps us organize transport, guides, and ensure availability on your preferred date. Booking early is especially helpful during weekends and the tourist season (October–March).
We recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes and light, breathable clothing. Mumbai can be hot and humid, so bring sunscreen, a hat, and a refillable water bottle. If visiting religious or traditional areas, modest attire is appreciated.
