Enjoy the Elephanta Caves Tour, exploring the Buddhist and Hindu caves of this UNESCO World Heritage Site located about 10km by boat from the Gateway of India!
After meeting at the Gateway of India we will take you by boat to Elephanta Island, and after embarking there, you will spend a couple of hours looking at and learning about the five caves dedicated to the Hindu God Shiva, and about the other two caves built in a Buddhist style.
It’s a nice escape from the chaos of Mumbai for a few hours!
The caves are closed on Mondays

Your guide will be wearing a navy blue polo T-shirt with the Reality Tours & Travel logo (on the left side of the chest) and will also carry an official ID card.
Yes, they are. The boat ride is part of the fun, and once you’re on the island it feels like you’ve stepped back in time. The caves are old, the carvings are huge, and it’s very different from the city.
Count on half a day. The ferry is about an hour each way, and you’ll want another couple of hours just to walk slowly, take photos, and stop for a snack before heading back.
You can just buy a ferry ticket and go. That said, the caves don’t have many signs, so unless you already know the stories, a guide makes it more interesting—you’ll actually understand what you’re looking at.
Go in the morning. It’s cooler, the light is nicer for photos, and you’ll miss most of the afternoon crowd.
Once you get off the ferry, there’s a toy train if you don’t feel like walking, then about 120 steps up to the caves. The path has little shops, some cheeky monkeys, and basic toilets at the top.
